Welcome

Sojourn and Sage is a ministry of Sam and Anjuli Paschall in Escondido, CA (near San Diego). It is our hope that this ministry can be a place for you to connect and gather with others who share a longing to walk with God as sojourners, and to grow in wisdom and the knowledge of God. We are called Sojourn and Sage because it is our hope to provide wisdom for the those who have grown weary along the way.

We encourage you to walk through our website and discover all the various ways we can join you in your relationship with God. Through the residency program and retreats we hope to journey with you as you grow in wisdom and love. If you long to know the love of God in your heart, discover who you are, and cultivate deeper relationships, this might be the right place for you. We look forward to meeting you and being apart of your story. If you have any questions or if you just want to introduce yourself and get to know us and our ministry a bit more, please send us a message. Settle in, scroll about, and say “hello.”

Our Story

We grew up just a few blocks away from each other, but didn’t fall in love until grad school. While at Talbot Seminary, we discovered how similar our dreams were. We were made to come beside others and encourage them in their relationship with God.

Meet Anjuli

I grew up as a missionary kid secretly wondering, “Why does everyone else understand this Jesus thing, but me? I’m doing all the right things, but something seems wrong inside of me.” I studied Psychology at Point Loma Nazarene University and earned my graduate degree from Talbot Seminary in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care. It wasn’t until I ran into my fears instead of from them, that I found my gritty and glittering voice and the love of God meeting me there. I have been married for over 16 years to my childhood friend, Sam, and we have five wildly beautiful children: Manoah, Samuel, Noelle, Hannaly, and Mea. As a pastors wife, author (Stay and Awake), and busy mom, I learned that prayer is like breathing and pain is a pathway to freedom. Weekends are spent renovating our little home in Southern California and taking adventures to the nearby ocean. I am passionate about speaking hope into the longings of Christian women’s hearts through writing, retreats, and online classes. I love chai tea, Instagram and the color orange.

Meet Sam

I grew up in the church, but as I grew older found that I had learned how to behave as a Christian, but did not know Christ. I studied history and philosophy at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at Talbot School of Theology. It was during my time in seminary that I discovered that I didn’t know how to pray. The desert father Evagrius said, “one who prays truly is a theologian, and a theologian is one who prays truly.” I was not a theologian because I had not come to know Christ in a life of prayer. This discovery during my time in seminary has launched me into a lifelong quest to “know Christ and the power of his resurrection, and may share in his sufferings.” I am a married to Anjuli, father of five, and pastor of Mission Hills Church in Southern California. It would be my great joy to be your companion on your journey to know Christ.
